Luminis who initiated the OSGi Provisioning initiative within the Apache Foundation (known as Apache ACE) and Akquinet – both renowned experts in OSGi, joined forces in 2009 to initiate the EZdroid community. This collaboration was triggered by the realization that the Android platform as well as other, soon to be expected, Linux-based offerings could revolutionize how individuals and organizations use 3G mobile devices.

Our objective is to provide open provisioning services for software and content which has been validated as being safe – insofar as they will not interfere in the normal running of an Android device. In doing this we aim to oppose attempts to stifle development through the proprietary “ownership” of key technologies. By providing an open gateway, through which validated content and software applications can be accessible by anyone, we hope to promote a dynamic and flourishing market.
